This is our new page for members and friends of Calvary Baptist Church to read the Bible through in a year. Tell us how things are going, what insights you have gotten in your reading, or ideas that help you stick with it. We're looking forward to hearing from you as we encourage each other to READ THE BIBLE THROUGH!!

  1. One good source for Daily Bible Reading is http://www.lifejournal.cc/bible/

  2. A few tips from veteran readers for “first timers:”

    1. Begin each day’s reading with a short prayer thanking God for the availability of the scriptures to you and for the presence of His Spirit to guide to learn what He would have you learn today.

    2. Schedule your reading—usually for the same time every day. I used to try this the last thing each night, when the house was quiet and everyone else was in bed. Unfortunately, I would frequently get sleepy too and get little from my reading. Many readers, and I, have found that first thing in the morning is better. You can always get up a little earlier, even if you have a busy schedule. What a great way to get the proper mind set for the day! It’s your life, your decision. Just do it! One elderly saint said, “No Bible, no breakfast.” Another said, “Don’t put your head on the pillow unless you’ve had your nose in The Book.”

    3. Pick a routine place for your reading—a place where you can leave your “stuff” and get right to it: a place where you will become accustomed to communicating with the Spirit and won’t easily be interrupted.

    4. Early in the year when you have some available time, get a few days ahead on your reading schedule. That way you won’t always feel pressure to “keep up.”

    5. Chose a Bible translation that is understandable to you, but also is as accurate as possible rather than a “paraphrase.” Also one that has some “helps” e.g. footnotes, center column references, book outlines and backgrounds., etc.
